FAQ
DSX-5000 vs DSX-8000 FAQ
What is the difference between the DSX-5000 and DSX-8000?
The DSX-5000-ADD certifies up to Cat 6A / Class FA at 1 GHz. The DSX-8000-ADD extends certification to Cat 8 / Class I and II at 2 GHz. Both run on the same Versiv main unit with shared ProjX, Taptive and LinkWare PC reporting.
Can the DSX-5000 certify Cat 8 cabling?
No. The DSX-5000-ADD scope stops at Cat 6A / Class FA. Cat 8 certification requires the 2 GHz channel adapters and Cat 8 test limits supported on the DSX-8000-ADD.
Can the DSX-8000 also certify Cat 6A links?
Yes. The DSX-8000-ADD certifies Cat 5e, Cat 6, Cat 6A and Class FA in addition to Cat 8 and Class I/II, so one kit covers current enterprise plant and Cat 8 data-center work.
Is the DSX-8000 faster than the DSX-5000?
Yes on Cat 6A: 8 seconds on the DSX-8000 versus 10 seconds on the DSX-5000. The DSX-8000 also adds a 16-second Cat 8 / Class I-II autotest the DSX-5000 cannot run.
What is in a TRS DSX rental kit?
The DSX-5000-ADD kit ships with the copper module, two DSX-CHA004 channel adapters and two 50 cm Ohm permanent-link adapters. The DSX-8000-ADD kit ships with the copper module, two DSX-CHA804 channel adapters and two 50 cm Ohm permanent-link adapters. Configuration is confirmed at quote.
Can I buy a DSX used through TRS?
Yes. The DSX-5000-ADD product page lists a buy-used price of $7,379. DSX-8000-ADD buy-used availability is provided on request.
What do Level V, Level VI and Level 2G mean?
They are field-tester accuracy designations used by cabling standards. DSX-5000 supports IEC Level V to 1000 MHz. DSX-8000 supports IEC Level VI and TIA Level 2G to 2000 MHz. On the page, this is kept as a standards detail rather than the main comparison point.
